To Everyone At Bigger Pockets,

This is my first step on the long journey towards real estate knowledge and experience. I am slowly realizing that the myths about real estate have been holding me back from getting in the ring and taking some punches. I've started listening to the Bigger Pockets podcast; the personal stories of struggle and triumph on there are putting fuel in my tank and driving me forward. 

I recently got married in Viet Nam and I am in the process of trying to get my wife over to Canada to meet the rest of my family. However, this has not been as easy as I thought it would be. We both have lofty ambitions for our lives and I believe investing in real estate is the way to see our dreams become reality. 

Currently, I'm located in Chilliwack, British Columbia (about an hour from Vancouver) and I recently started selling cars. I'm hoping that the community here on Bigger Pockets will give me a better insight on the many questions that I have. We also would like to get into the market in Viet Nam, so if anyone has experience there, or anywhere in South East Asia, I would be very interested in hearing their stories.

Welcome from Richmond BC.  I am not sure exactly what the Chilliwack market has been doing, but it is likely following the rest of the lower mainland which I am sure you know has gone up too much over the past ~3 years. I started my investing by listening to BP podcasts as well and now I am maxed out with 4 investment property mortgages. Fortunately, I got all my properties before the new mortgage rules came into effect. Another good resource is the vancouverrealestatepodcast.com that talks about local market, mortgage rules, foreign buyer tax, investment strategies, local to Vancouver and surrounding area.  The podcast did start with just talking about "Vancouver Proper" but it does expand into other areas and you can learn about investing in our country.  Definitely continue with BP podcasts because it is inspirational and their guests share valuable tips.
