Just starting out! Any advice appreciated on remodeling steps.

Hello, My name is Cari.  My husband and I are just starting out.  We have one rental home that was our old house that we turned into a rental.  In the next month we plan to purchase our first home we plan to remodel and then hold to rent.  I'm attempting to be as prepared as possible.  I'm making a plan to follow as soon as we purchase our first home what all the steps will be.  For example....once we get the keys what comes first?  Is there anyone out there that has advice on things that you have done or what you may have learned doing this for the first time?
