Newbie from San Jose, CA Looking in Raleigh, NC

Hi I am Chad; I work in law enforcement and love what I do. Although some days can be tough, I like doing something that can have a positive effect on someone’s life. Prior to Law Enforcement and the Navy, I was a property management assistant for 4 years. Although I always wanted to invest in real estate, I found property management did not provide me with a deeper purpose for which I was looking.

Even though I love what I do, I want to build up passive income through buy-and-hold real estate to provide my family with additional options and decrease the overtime I work. I want to be able to spend more time with my family and not worry about choosing between the paycheck overtime brings and the time I get to have with my family. Although I live in Northern California, I am looking to invest in North Carolina (Raleigh).

My wife and I own a house in California and have saved up additional money for rental property. I have been reading and listening religiously to podcasts for the last few months and feel ready to get this journey started. I am generally someone who likes to keep to myself but realize I have to be more willing to make new friends (network) if I am to have any success investing.

Have you considered any of the surrounding areas near Raleigh? Its getting tougher and tougher to make the numbers work there for buy and hold
