Updated almost 7 years ago,
Greetings from San Diego!
Hello everyone, my name is Michael and this is my first post. Woo hoo!
Anyway, I'm new to BP and new to investing. My wife and I recently started getting into real estate, as our kids are older and we have college to pay for! We're also hoping to (eventually) transition out of our current jobs and into investing fulltime. As far as current employment is concerned, I help companies manage and analyze their data. I've been doing this for over 15 years for a variety of companies and industries. Everything from manufactured housing, mortgage lenders, education companies, staffing companies, internet, and IOT, to name a few. My wife is a CPA and has worked at the same company for many years.
Although we're new to the biz, we've done a fair amount to our own house. We did an addition several years ago, adding 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. So our 3/2 went to 5/3. We've added a pool, as well as a few other miscellaneous things. I'm definitely well versed in pool maintenance! I'm also a big DIYer and have done drywall, tile, plumbing, molding, windows/doors, decks (4), electrical, flooring, and a bunch of other stuff.
Since we started this journey back in December, we've created a LLC, gotten a HELOC, spoken to our contractor about our plans, have some private money lined-up, been to several meetups, met agents, met wholesalers, and basically done a bunch of research. We're ready to pull the trigger on a flip and we're currently looking into marketing strategies.
We've maintained a good relationship with our contractor over the years (he did the addition). He's been a great resource for us on any questions we've had. He's a really good guy. Also, my father-in-law has his own design/build firm, in another state, and he's been a big help to us as well. We feel that if we run into any construction related issues, we can always call one of them for help.
Sorry for the long-winded intro, but I'm trying to give everyone a good idea of where we're at. We haven't done a flip yet, but we're ready and eager. It's great to be here at BP. It looks like there's a ton of info here.
