Brand new from Ontario, California

Hello everybody, I’m Justin Delatore from Ontario California. I’ve lived in Southern California my entire life. I am a family practice doctor that just barely finished residency training. So I am starting to look at my massive amounts of school debt and trying to plan for my future. I have 3 kids with one more coming soon so we are excited about that. I have recently witnessed some people around me that I look up to have financial troubles in fields/jobs that should be “secure.” This has gotten me interested in finding something that can help me find financial freedom to work my job because I like to and not because I have to. With that said I have zero real life experience with real estate. I have listened to some podcasts and watched some YouTube videos and that is the extent of my experience. However, what I have been gravitating towards has been the buy and hold rental properties, probably single family homes or maybe small multi family homes. We also have a friend who has recommended vacation rentals, but I’m not sure if we want to start with that. Since I do live in Southern California and the prices of homes are really high and going up (quite rapidly) every month I was considering investing out of state in more favorable markets. I look forward to getting to know more about real estate investing and starting to invest. I have a goal of obtaining my first rental property this year (though I still need to convince my wife).
