Question on the ultimate beginners guide

Hello everyone, My name is Paul Bergen I am 38 and I have always wanted to get into real estate and never really applied myself till now. Areas of interest are wholesaling and buy and hold. The market in my area (Brooklyn or any of the NYC area) is just through the roof and definitely may have to look in other areas. I just started the ultimate beginners guide to investing in real estate, also ordered a copy of Rich Dad poor Dad that I hear so many great things about. So as I begin this journey I will have a lot of questions. If there is anyone in my area who attends Reia meetings and know of any that I might want to look into that are newbie friendly that would be great info.
