Hey all! This is my first post as a bp member! I'm new to rei but totally obessesed! I'm currently beginning my search for potential investments and Im seriously considering the Des Moines, IA market. I was born and raised in the DSM metro area, so I know the area quite well.

I currently don't live in the area and haven't for quite some time. I've done some vague market analysis and it seems to have a healthy steady average growth over the last several years but am curious to other peoples opions and experience.

Anyone fimilar with or currently investing in the DSM area please post away it'd be greatly appreciated!

Also just want to thank all Bp members for being so generous and inspiring! You guys rock.

Nah, Des Moines is terrible, you'll want to stay FAR away.  :-)

I kid, my sense is, backed by zero data, that we see slow and steady growth as far as property values.  We don't get the upside nor downside of the big swings that the big markets have to deal with.

And if you've been away for more than 10 years, it might be worth a visit prior to any major financial moves as the city itself has changed quite a bit. Neighborhoods that were nice when I was younger aren't anymore (Sherman Hill, parts of Roosevelt area), and areas that were total dumps in the 80's are completely revamped (East Village, west Ingersoll).

Good luck in your search, and welcome to BP!
