Adjusting rent on possible deal with current long term tenants

Hey guys, I'm new to the BiggerPockets forums and am just getting my foot in the door when it comes to real estate investment. I have found a property that I think would be ideal if I can get it for the right price but my concern is that the tenants who are currently occupying and have for the last 20 years might be taken aback if I have to raise their rent from what it is currently to adjust for my costs and expenses on the property. has anyone had any experience with this type of situation?
