Member Introduction/Airbnb question from TX
Hello all,
My name is Josh and I wanted to introduce myself. Have been a member of Bigger Pockets for years now but this will be my first post.
Haven't been meaning to hide in the shadows, just haven't posted because anytime I have had questions I've simply used the search function and have found a plethora of responses to any questions that I've had. I'd like to thank the BP community for this resource, as its quite valuable and there was nothing of the sort when I started RE investing in 1998.
As stated I've been investing in some form or fashion for 19 years and have owned single family and multi family properties mainly in GA, FL and TX. Looking at some deals in OK now.
I do have a question. I am taking over my parents home in the Atlanta area. I need to have access to the house (monthly) for a few days, so I thought renting the house short term as an Airbnb might be a good option to offset the payment, utilities...etc. Really looking for any advise or expertise in the matter since I have no experience with short term rentals. Its in the suburbs south of the city and is a nice little 3/1.5 but am not sure how well it will rent. Any ideas or good books that you can recommend? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advise.
Josh

Hey @Josh Warren,
Since you'll mostly be "managing" the property from out of town, I would recommend getting in touch with other AirBNB investors in the Atlanta area. Maybe try finding real estate investment clubs you can visit or meet with during one of your monthly visits.
These fellow investors will more than likely have a network of people that will facilitate your situation: ideally a local property manager that can keep an eye on your property that may or may not specialize in AirBNB. Someone that knows cleaners for in between visits, contractors for any necessary repairs that may come up (even repairs necessary to get the property up to standard before renting it out), etc etc. Having onsite support while you're away will make your experience a lot more successful.
As far as your question on the location, research what things in Atlanta your property is convenient to. You'll find that many AirBNB users don't mind commuting 10-20 mins, so the fact that the property is in the suburbs south of the city, might not negatively affect you as you may think or expect.
