Newbie from Buffalo, New York!
Greetings BiggerPocketers,
My name is Collyn and I am from good ole Buffalo, New York. I am relatively new to real estate having only worked in the field for a few months but have been taking more steps as of late. I became a licensed real estate salesperson this week after working in a administrative role for a property management company since April. I will be handling the residential leasing for their portfolio. The real estate side is currently my "side hustle" until the company grows to the point I can support myself through the leasing aspect. I work full-time as a print group account executive; the less sexy version is I sell copiers and printers.
Currently, my September goal is to be purchasing my first multi-family property with the intention of house-hacking and using the BRRR method to propel me through my 12 month goal. My goal for the next twelve months is to purchase a total of 8 units through multi family properties. Ideally, two 4-unit properties but however I get there is fine by me. At this time I do not have the strongest financial situation but it has drastically improved from when I joined BiggerPockets back in March. I took a job with a better base and aggressive commission plan that has allowed me to save at a much faster rate than ever before. I actually heard about BiggerPockets in October of 2106 while attending a local REI meetup through a brief conversation. I began listening on my drive home and have been hooked ever since.
As far as more about me... I love working out, reading, podcasts and cars. Unfortunately (maybe fortunately), cars have really taken a back seat as I improve my financial position but I have an undying love for anything German and tinkering and modifying them. I typically hit the gym 6-7 days a week and usually first thing in the morning, it is effectively my coffee. Two of my favorite books would be Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss and also Set for Life by some guy, I think he goes by Scott. Biggest reason for Tools of Titans is because of the variety of the interviewees that are throughout the book and the insights they offer. Set for Life by Mr. Trench was definitely a validation to what I was beginning to do and really opened my eyes up to areas I could improve my spending habits. Summer has made it tough but I have pretty much trimmed all the fat I could without going full-blown hermit mode and not enjoying myself. Obviously, BiggerPockets makes my list of podcasts as well as Gary Vaynerchuk and occasionally Grant Cardone.
I look forward to being more active on BiggerPockets and working with those interested in the Western New York market.
Here's to working towards real financial freedom!
