Hey Guys. I just discovered Bigger Pockets within the past week. My wife and I have been discussing ways to replace our 9-5 jobs with more passive income streams. We want the freedom to dictate how we spend the hours of our day ourselves. Bigger Pockets actually showed up while I was researching stock market investing, and something clicked.
My grandfather was a Southern Baptist preacher by trade, but he invested in real estate as a side hustle...and hustle he did. Just before he passed away several years ago, my grandmother and I informally calculated his net worth over a cup of coffee. He was a millionaire! His preacher salary did not accomplish that on its own.
As for me, I followed my grandfather to many real estate auctions, helped work on some of his rental properties, and, as I became old enough to realize what REI was doing for him, I began asking my grandmother about the details (after all, she kept the books). My wife and I have been married for 3 years now, and we are in our second home (due to a career/location change). We bought our first home from a bank, lived in it for 2 years, and sold for a small profit when we moved. That and the purchase of our current home pretty much sum up my real estate experience.
Perhaps my experiences with my grandfather are what made Bigger Pockets resonate so well, but I am now in education mode. I am consuming all of the information I can learn at the moment, and my wife and I are starting to arrange our personal finances to get started. We are targeting our first deal for early 2018, but we have a lot to learn and a lot of research to do. Bigger Pockets looks to be a phenomenal resource, and I'm listening to 1-2 podcasts a day. We just sat in on our first webinar last night. Already, on my drive to work I am noticing vacant properties, and hopefully I can come across a local, seasoned investor soon who is willing to show me the ropes a little!
