Biggest tip- choose a mentor who is living the lifestyle you are hoping to accomplish with your investments. There's a big difference between a guy sitting behind a desk 9-5 who tells you what kind of investing to get involved with, versus someone who is out in the field actually doing it and/or living the financial lifestyle you want or just general style of life. I knew I had found my mentor when I met him on his rooftop deck on a high-rise in downtown LA, he was wearing flip flops, shorts, didn't have a briefcase, worked whatever hours he wanted, and traveled anytime he wanted. I was especially interested in hearing what he recommended because I wanted that life! And now, I have it :)

It's the famous...."don't take advice from someone you wouldn't trade shoes with" idea. Find someone you would trade shoes with and listen to what they have to say!
