Hello World,

I just want to start by saying I am suuuuper excited to be part of such an amazing group of people, so I wanted to say hey and introduce myself. My name is Hill, and I am an Army brat born in Fayetteville, NC but raised all over the US and Europe. I’ll be 30 this year (bummer), I am a SharePoint Developer, currently working as a contractor overseas in Kuwait. I served 6 amazing years in the U.S. Army, where 5 of those were spent in Vicenza, Italy. Jealous much? Lol just kidding. Husband to an amazing woman Sarka Weingartova…she also answers to Charlotte, and father of two.

After years of bouncing around for work we decided to join our friends in Clarksville, TN. So as of June 2017, we are now proud owners of our first single family home. The proud part was short lived for me after I was introduced to BP.com and quickly realized we should've house hacked our way to financial freedom using my VA loan. What a waste of such an awesome loan. Lol

FYI…For other military veterans out there looking to purchase their first home, I'd suggest looking into purchasing a multifamily home (4-plex), occupy 1 unit as your primary residence and rent out the rest of them. This way you can either generate passive income or live there for practically nothing/possible free. You have an invest property and you can pull the VA Certificate after two years…rinse and reuse. A great no-money down approach, but do your homework on that subject…I'm no expert. Just passing on a strategy

Now that we purchased our first property, which was a lot easier than I had imagined. Ever since, I have been looking at properties and just listening to the different strategies people come up with. It’s just amazing to be able to hear other people’s success stories and just goes to show that there’s really no excuse to not get started. Sometimes you just have to dig deeper and get a bit creative.

I joined bigger pockets and signed up as a pro member because I just felt that it was worth the value of information I receive daily. I listen to the podcasts during my 30 min commute to/from work, lunch break, in the gym..pretty much whenever I get free time…I have a lot of free time. lbvs

We’re currently looking to purchase small multifamily rental, preferably a 4 unit property, in Clarksville, TN, but after scanning the area and seeing that its slim pickings there. So we’ll more than likely be going with an out-of-state rental.

Areas of interest

Columbia, SC

Fayetteville, NC

Augusta, GA

Nashville, TN

Clarksville, TN

Pretty much anywhere that has a military base near by…

I look forward to the day I return to the US and get to actually attend some of these BP events/meetup groups. I love to network with people and pick their brains. Knowledge is great especially when you share it with others. Until then, a few coworkers and I are in the process of standing up a Masterminds group out here in Kuwait. Cryptocurrency and ecommerce is my current investment strategy but I'm looking to expand into REI's.

Wow…I hope I didn’t scare you guys away. lol

@Hillard Ladd Welcome to BP! I would dig into learning more about Va loans, But the last time I checked you can have two of them if the second VA loan in the same zip code (or area)and it is of higher value than the first loan. With what you were saying with looking at Multiplex options I would assume its going to be a higher cost than your house. Now you would have to live in your current house for 1 year before moving into your multiplex you house hack but at that point you can keep your VA loan on your SFH and possible refinance if you want. Veterans United homes loans out of Clarksville is a possible source of more information. I was stationed out of Bragg while I was going though the Q course and I see that market having a lot of potential still.

Hope to see you at Rylan's meet up, Good Luck!
