Virtually no experience from Crown Point, IN

My name is Jacob Vingua. As the subject suggests, I have virtually no real estate experience. I'm 23 years old and have lived in Crown Point since i was 5.  It's only been a week now that I've been pursuing real estate knowledge.  I currently work as a manager at Chick-Fil-A, and plan to begin pursuing my mechanical engineering bachelors degree this fall.  All the while, I want to  continue increasing my capital, and working towards financial freedom.  With help from a preexisting network in my life, and Bigger Pockets,  I believe this is an achievable goal.  Currently, the properties I'm looking at are near Hammond and Merrillville (Northwest Indiana). My range of interest is wide though. Cedar Lake, Crown Point, Griffith, Gary, Lowell, Highland, and Munster could be included to give a better idea.  I'm looking for my first investment to be a house hack with a duplex.  Past that, I may look into wholesaling due to already having an investor, or whatever option seems to be the most beneficial (as I've recently learned, real estate apparently has manyyy options).  My brother led me to this fountain of resources. I'm quite excited, and I look forward to meeting members and building my network.
