Hello from this newbie in Oahu, Hawaii!
Hello BiggerPockets Community,
My name is Keith and I have just started my path to becoming a real estate investor. I have no prior experience and was introduced to the world of REI very recently. Since that first exposure, I have been reading up on everything I could find and plan to keep learning everything I can leading up to my first investment. Being only 19 years old, I am still trying to build my credit score, so in the meantime, I plan to learn from the BP community and expand my knowledge to learn how to invest in what I believe is a very difficult housing market here in the Islands. I have mainly focused my research on buy-and-hold investments, but am open to learning about flipping and selling homes and wholesaling. Thanks for reading and I look forward to continuing my journey through the BiggerPockets community!

KEITH - Good luck on your REI career !! You are starting early and learning - you will do great. I did not start until my 40's, but being older/wiser, I accelerated quickly and now I am a Private Money lender.
I have been to our beautiful islands many times and you are correct, the deals are few and far between. That said, if you start seeking out local investor club resources and perhaps shadow a local Mentor in the area and start "Bird-Dogging" properties for that Mentor - your education will pay off quickly with what you absorb.
Just a few thoughts from a "used to be" newbie. ;-)
