Hey everyone I've been reading this site for the past 5 hours already received a ton of knowledge. I'm 27 years old and my story is probably a lot different then most of you on here. Here's my story. My mother and former step father bought a house in 07 at the height of the market for 225k on a 15 year mortgage. It needed a total gut job. So in the middle of gutting it my mother decided to leave him. Fast forward a year my mom gets the house and tells me if I finish the house, it's yours. It takes me 2 years to finish it durning that time she continues to pay the mortgage and taxes. I put 50k into it for the rehab. Since then we've had one tenant for the past 7 years that pays for the mortgage and taxes. There's zero cash flow in this property. She asked if I wanted to put it in my name but I didn't want to because I wanted to buy another property when the time was right and rent it out and that time is now. But the more I look into it I realize I can't get a regular mortgage. How do I go about getting a mortgage for a property I want to rent out? The reason I didn't want the other house in my name was because I figured I'd only be able to get one mortgage but now I think I messed up being that I have a track record of being a landlord but it's not on paper.
