New Member From So-Cal - Excited To Be Here!
Hello BP Community,
My name is Vincent Haskin from Simi Valley, California and I am a complete beginner to the world of real-estate investing! I am very thankful to have found this site and community when I googled how to start in this industry. I have lived in Southern California for my entire life and one day hope to have a little place in the mountains of Colorado. I am about to graduate from my local state university with a degree in Finance and a focus on financial analysis. I currently work in the construction industry (looking at finance positions after graduation) as a assistant project manager for a developer working on a mixed-use podium project in West L.A. I really enjoy hiking and camping, nature photography, cycling and computer gaming. After reading all of the beginner guides, blog posts, forums and podcasts I thought I should introduce myself and make my first post!
While I do thoroughly enjoy working in the construction industry, I want to be able to leverage the knowledge that I have gained in construction and the information I have learned from studying finance (I do not want all my time/money spent on my Finance degree not be put to use!). I thought that real estate would be a good avenue and could see myself moving into this full-time when I hit my freedom number.
My ultimate goal with REI is to be able to hold a portfolio of multi-family and single-family homes and my main method would be the buy-and-hold strategy. I like the idea of flipping houses and could see myself going into that down the road but I think the long-term approach would work best for me. It seems that Southern California and the Ventura County market is hard to get into as a first time investor but I am still trying! I would like to buy my first rental property that is within driving distance (3-6 hours) before I think about buying out of state. Thank you for taking to the time to read my post and I cannot wait to take my first dive into the REI world.
Best,
Vincent Haskin
