Newbie from Kansas City
Hello BP! My name is Chad Offerdahl and I am 24 years old. I've been interested in REI for years but never got any traction. I stumbled upon this website about a month ago and I can't stop reading and learning more. My interest is investing in rental properties (both SFR's & MFR's). I live and will invest (at least to start) in Kansas City and the surrounding areas.
Let me tell you a little more about myself:
- I enjoy traveling, watching sports, reading, going on early morning runs, eating healthy and (most importantly) spending time with my family and friends.
- I'm a big math nerd. I love budgeting! In my family I'm known as "Dave Ramsey's son."
- I helped start and co-own a local restaurant concept.
My goal for 2017 is to purchase 2 rental properties. My 3 year goal is to build my portfolio to 10 rental properties.
I have a lot of experience with contractors, architects, attorneys, bankers, regulatory agencies and real estate agents from my restaurant deals. But what I don't have is experience with rental properties. I would love to find a mentor in the Kansas City area to meet up with and learn the business.
My inclination would be to become a cash investor but I also see the merits of leveraging. I'm fortunate enough to well capitalized. I just need someone to share the recipe to the secret sauce!
I'd like to thank everyone who regularly contributes to these forums. It has been an incredible resource for a newbie like me!

@Chad Offerdahl , welcome to BP. Are you looking to buy and hold? If so you need to leverage but not over leverage. Always have a large amount in a cash reserve set aside. You're starting at the age. I recommend attending the MAREI meeting in Over Land park if you can to start networking and meeting people. Good luck!
