Advice on becoming a licensed agent

Hello BP,

I know I'm putting this in the new member introductions but I'm not really new to BP.  The last few years I have been stuck in the paralysis analysis stage with real estate, I honestly feel like real estate is my passion and is what I want to do with my life.  I made a huge leap to get myself out of the paralysis analysis stage and enrolled into the tucker school of real estate here in Indianapolis to get my real estate license.

The reasons I did this was because am relatively new to the Indianapolis area so I feel like this would help me network with others and help me learn the area more.  I honestly want to be more on the investing side of things so I also felt like in a way this would also help in the long run.

Now this is kind of where I need help/expertise of experienced real estate professionals.  As I said above I would like to be more on the investing side of things but I have a few options in mind that I feel could possibly help me to learn the business and to network.  The things I have in mind are to become a license assistant just to learn the business, become a referral agent, or to look for investors that I can partner up with who can help me with that side of the business.

Any and all advice will be helpful,

Thank you

First, congrats on making the leap to getting your license. I wouldn't start off my Realtor career being someone's assistant or being a referral agent. I think it's best to get your feet wet and jump right in. After you have established a broker (if not already) I would start doing open houses for other agents on the weekends. This is a great way to find potential clients. You need to talk to any and all friends you have in the area to let them know you can help them buy or sell a house. I jumped right in 3 years ago and now I sell 40-50 houses per year. It's a lot of hard work but worth it. If I was someones assistant I wouldn't make 1/8 what I do now and only making them all the money instead (if money is your motivation).

Good luck
