Investigating the real estate path - Terre haute Indiana

My name is Ben Elliott and I am looking to see if real estate is an optimal path for investment and possible passive income. I currently work in medical IT and have been in the IT field for many years.

My first goal is to really understand the broad spectrum of real estate. Real estate seems somewhat of a diamond with so many facets! I plan on educating myself by being an active member in the forums, consistently listening to the podcast and reading the suggested books - definitely not a small list! Any suggestions on educating oneself in real estate on a broad level would be appreciated! Once I have a general grasp of the different avenues of real estate, I plan on scoping down my focus to a specific area that would be the best fit (such as house flipping, rental, whole sale, etc.). Reaching this step, I hope to have expanded my network to be able to have a mentor and ride "shot gun" in the area of interest that would be beneficial for both parties.

What is the end goal? If this is a good fit, with some hard work, I would love to see this as a potential opportunity to get closer to financial independence. I still want to work, but would love to be able to focus on work that I have passion for without the money aspect as the one of the key motivators.

I was introduced to bigger pockets through the Mad Fientist podcast.

Look forward to meeting all of you!
