SoCal 2 NC and Starting REI
Hello BP Community! My name is Joe and I recently moved to NC after a short stint in trucking, and after an even shorter stint as a local beer distributor, I finally decided I wanted to work in real estate. I had always wanted to do it (even before trucking), ever since learning that my Grandfather is an investor in the SoCal area. But after coming to him to learn more about what he does and that I wanted to try my hand at it, he completely shut me down, and quite frankly made me look like a fool to the point where my Grandmother told me "don't let him bully you, Joe." Not sure why he reacted the way he did but needless to say it kept me from moving forward.
I did, however, accomplish getting my CDL and ran as an OTR (Over The Road) flatbed truck driver with a large company for nearly a year. But after finding out that I was going to be a dad, I wanted to find a local job in the Charlotte area so I could be home every night for my fiance. And I did! I landed a job with great pay, benefits, and perks! But after 2 weeks they "let me go" due to failing a CRT screening (strength aptitude test), which is ridiculous because the doctor that performed the test showed me where I needed to score and I did, I passed. But not according to the "higher ups" of the company.
Needless to say, I was very bummed out, because I have always wanted to work with beer. Having lived in SoCal and been to nearly every craft brewery in the Inland Empire, Orange County, and Temecula Valley, I grew very fond of trying new and unique styles of beer and sour ales. So to work for a big distributor in the Charlotte area, seeing all the different brands, big name and local, and just learning how it all works was a dream come true for me. I am still interested in working with beer, but I am not so sure about working as a distributor based on the fact that I may be stuck outside the physical requirements, so I am in the process of obtaining my Cicerone Beer Server certification so I can possibly work in a taproom or pub.
As far as REI goes, I want to try my hand at wholesaling because I am quite literally living off of my last paycheck and only have about $100-$200 to put into marketing and expenses. I am considering getting my RE Brokers License but from what I've learned that could be quite pricey or maybe I am looking in the wrong places? But for now, I am learning all I can from BP podcasts and youtube videos, Flipping Junkie, and others on youtube. So if anyone has any other great learning material, please share. I am very open to meeting over lunch or a beer, matter of fact, I love heading down to the Huntersville area where there are quite a few neat breweries and restaurants to experience.
So with that, thank you all for reading my epic introductory lol!
Happy New Year Everyone!
