In need of a Northern Virginia, DC mentor!
Hey Everyone, Tommy here
Newbie to BP community, I've listened to majority of the podcasts, however today I decided I needed to take my commitment more seriously.
I'm interested in locating a mentor that can educate me on flipping homes to eventually buying and holding to secure my long term wealth.
I am fairly broke because up until now I've invested my money in a software/app developing project, therefor low to no money investments may suit me best.
Hoping somebody out there is willing and able to help!
Thanks
Tommy

@Tommy McCoy welcome to BP. I would suggest being active with some local REI groups. Two I suggest are Capital REI Group, and DMV deal makers. Both have regular meetings, but you can be a fly on the wall in the FB groups and pick up a lot of great info.
I posted a blog post recently on what my advice would be to new members. Feel free to read it, the link is below:

Hope that helps you out. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions :)
Welcome to BP @Tommy McCoy! Just for future reference, don't directly ask people if they can be your mentor- it kind of comes off just as if you walked up to a random girl and asked her to be your girlfriend. Like @Brandon L. stated, going to real estate meetups is a great way to interact with other people about REI. Go out and network, introduce yourself to people who have been in the REI game for a while, and after showing those people your interest and enthusiasm about real estate, then you can drop the question. At that point, ask them if you can take them out to lunch or for some coffee to further talk more real estate. That would be the approach I would take, just my advice. Good luck!
Ah, gotcha.
Thanks a lot for the feedback guys @Brandon L., @Adam Juodis I appreciate your insight.
That's where I will start then.
Hello Gentleman
Great advice. I too am a BP user and invested. Tommy McCoy - another reia that is close by is traction reía. They meet in Tyson's. I'm on tap to visit them myself as their next discussion will go into tax prep and strategies.
Brandon L. - I read you blog, and commented about how much I enjoyed it. I really liked the learn before you earn point you made. I am currently house hacking on my second property and actively looking for people to network with in my area. Although I am still looking for B&H deals I spend more time learning and listening to gain experience. I live in sterling and would enjoy taking you up on the same offer to contact as Tommy. Hope that's ok.
You gentlemen have a great night.
@Tommy McCoy, welcome to BP. I definitely recommend the Capital REI. Good luck.
Looks like I will be headed there! Thanks for the insight fellas @Mario Mejia @Kevin Hunter
