NYC member looking to invest upstate

Hello community! My name is Allyssa, I'm 23, and I have no money to invest. Can't wait to get started!

My boyfriend and I have been doing our research on REI for a little bit now. I've played with the idea of flipping houses since I was 18 but can never seem to make the numbers work, nor do I have the capital to do it properly. We live in the New York City area where a starter home that needs work easily runs for 300k. As a result, we are now trying to learn as much as possible about rentals and income properties.

I have family upstate (between Buffalo and Rochester) and a close aunt is in the process of closing on her second rental property. It seems like income properties would be a good way to go for our goals with the BRRRR strategy being prominent. That seems to be the best way of growing money though I could be wrong.

I have so much to learn and am excited to get input from all of you. These forums are incredible.
