Glad to be here! Looking for Canadian advice

Hey Im Bryce. Ive always been interested in real estate and have seen the potential in the industry for a long time. I just turned 30 and am looking to start a family and secure my financial future. When I turned 30 this summer, I was out working on my Dads fish boat when another fisherman said to me "30-40 are the most crucial years for setting yourself up". Those words stuck with me, in fact, Ive been thinking a lotabout them.

Anyway like I said, I work on a fish boat. Its a pretty tough job, long hours, physical work and for every fish you catch the ocean takes a piece back. I got pretty beat up this summer, the job isnt getting any easier. I realized I dont want to spend the rest of my life on the water getting beat up for my money. Im not quitting it, just slowly want to ease out of it. Real estate is one of my plans to get out, along with another one.

Ive been listening to some podcasts and educating myself with books; real estate, financial and some self help books. Most of the stuff Ive been reading is about investing in the USA and I live in Canada so to start on the forum Im looking for a push in the right direction to real estate investing in Canada. The cans and cants, and how the system is different from the US.

Thanks to anyone taking the time to read and give advice,

Bryce

@Bryce Anderson - Welcome to BP! What that fisherman said to you is really key. I'm in my mid 30s now and these have been the years I've witnessed massive changes in my social circle. Those that have applied themselves are really starting to achieve success now, whether business or personal. I think most people, myself included, waste their 20's having a good time.

There is Canadian content out there, it's just harder to find! For podcasts, there are two - a dude here in Toronto, Erwin Szeto, that runs an interview style podcast similar to what you hear on BP. Just search for "Mr. Hamilton Podcast". The other one I really enjoy is by an investor in Alberta who is also a lawyer. Google "Investor Lawyer Barry Podcast"  - it'll be one of the top searches.

Anyway, hope that helps! Let me know if you're looking for other resources.

Cheers,

Ming
