How to join industry

Hello everyone,

My name is Adriana, and I am a new member to Bigger Pockets. I joined bigger pockets because I am trying to make a career switch from my current job as a management consultant to becoming a licensed real estate agent. My problem is: I have no idea where to start. I am reaching out to the bigger pockets community for any advice you all may have on how I can start my journey towards becoming a real estate agent and learn more about the housing industry in general.

Some of my questions are:

What skills are companies looking for when they look to hire a real estate agent?

What sort of programs assist in training?

What is the career timeline of a new real estate agent (aka. do you study under an experienced agent before starting? Do you work behind the scenes for a few years before selling)?

What is your biggest piece of advice for someone just starting out?

Also- to give more context: I am 22 years old, with an undergraduate degree in Marketing. I live in CA, bay area.

Thank you,

Adriana
