New investor from San Francisco Bay Area

Hi, I am just starting out in real estate investing.  Haven't made any deals yet, but looking for my first property.  The area that I live in is just so expensive that I'm forced to look elsewhere in the country.  I don't have a well defined strategy yet, which is something I'm looking to the BP world to help me sort out.  My first goal is to generate enough cash flow to quit my job.  I'm not sure what a reasonable time frame to achieve this goal is.  Perhaps 10 years?

I've only discovered this site yesterday, and I'm already impressed with the site especially the forum. Looking forward to learn from other investors and build my dream.
