Attorney who decided to wisen up and follow his clients' lead

I am an attorney who handles creation of corporate entities and trusts to hold real estate, as well as litigation over deals gone bad and disputes with contractors.

I have one residential property that is a headache, as it is over an hour away from where I live, but I plan on selling it (although it was owner financed, and a bankruptcy has stalled he foreclosure). I own half of a commercial property which has one tenant that leases the entire building. After years of working with clients who own properties, I woke up and realized that it would be prudent to pick up a few functioning properties closer to me for my own portfolio.

I have a good handle on the legal side of where to place the investment and asset protection, but I have a good bit to learn about the other aspects of real estate investing (including identifying good and bad deals), thus my interest in this site. Also, as I do not handle landlord/tenant law, I am not egotistical enough to think I cannot learn something about an area of law in which I do not practice. I was sent here from the bogleheads site, where I learned more about investing in general.
