New (Currently) In Bryan, TX
Hey all,
My name is Ryan Dalton. I kind of came to have one rental home accidentally. I'll try to make the story short and sweet!
I purchased a home in West Virginia back in early 2013. Two years later, my girlfriend (now fiance) and I went to Texas to visit some family on her side and fell in love with it. I drive tractor trailer and work wasn't so great in West Virginia so we decided to make a move in search of better opportunity. We have been renting here in Bryan, TX for the same amount as we have coming in from the house in West Virginia so I obviously haven't been profiting anything. I'm actually losing money by the time I pay property taxes and insurance but we understood that going into it. The opportunity really isn't any better here with the oil and gas industry falling off so we are about to make a move again. We really want to think long term.
We are getting married in October and then want to sell off almost everything we own and go trucking over the road. This will eliminate most of our bills other than the cell phones, property taxes, and insurance. We should have decent money coming in every month and would like to eventually turn that money into rental properties. We are still trying to determine the area at the moment. There are a lot of moving parts and decisions to be made. We don't know whether to attempt to invest after we save for maybe a year and have a property management company watch over it or what. We also are unsure of the area. We would like to be in either West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey. My family is in West Virginia and her's is in New Jersey so somewhere in the middle (such as Harrisburg, PA) would be great. I haven't done any research on the area yet though.
That is essentially why I'm here though! I would love to learn, invest, and build a great future for us. I don't want to be living in the back of a big rig for the rest of our lives obviously. I do want to work hard while we're young and set ourselves up for a successful future where I can be close to home and start a family. We would like to only spend two years over the road and I might even be able to find local work paying well again at that point. I was fortunate enough to make great money while being home every night for the last five years but it just isn't there at the moment.
P.S. I found BP through a youtube video of one of the podcasts while trying to do some research today!
