From Peruser to User
I've had an account on BiggerPockets for about three years now and have read the articles, listened to the podcasts, and browsed the forums off and on. I usually adhere to my personality and play the role of "fly on the wall" to absorb information, but I've been trying to break that mold in multiple ways for the past year now. Participation is where it's at.
I'm 26 years old and from the Kansas City area. I have been drawn to real estate investing since I was 16 and read Kiyosaki's Rich Dad, Poor Dad as well as his other titles (shout out to my local library). Before I knew it, I was married (22 years old), had a daughter (24 years old), and had a son (26 years old). Basically, there have been some things that I've let derail me over the past 10 years. Not that those things are bad at all - I love being a husband and father! I just stopped pursuing what I've always wanted to do - invest in real estate so that I can spend more time with my wife and kids in the future.
Now, I'm refocused. We're currently working to pay down some debt and save for a rental. I've recently taken up a second job to accelerate this process. I'm currently researching how to know when we're ready in regards to cash reserves, down payment, etc. I'm the type that likes to jump in and figure it out along the way, but my wife is totally risk averse and I want to ensure we do it right the first time.
Anyway, I'm excited to finally take part in the forums here at BP as its a gold mine for information. I appreciate all the effort the members put forth to making this the outstanding community it is and look forward to connecting with you!
