Good Afternoon!

I am a recent college graduate with in an interest in real estate. Personally, I do not have much experience, but growing up I have witnessed my mother purchase a few rental properties in New York. Things went awfully wrong relatively quickly. Not knowing any better, she would rent properties to tenants without conducting background checks, credit checks, or checking with any references. I am sure you can imagine the nightmares she has experienced. I have always stayed away from real estate because I was afraid of dealing with landlord/tenant issues. I know how long and drawn out the eviction process can be. Although my mother had good intentions, she made a lot of mistakes along the way. Listening to Bigger Pockets podcast has given me the courage to not shy away from what could be a great way to secure wealth for the future, if done properly. Right now I am currently in the information gathering/learning stage. My short term goal is to save money and educate myself about loans that I would be eligible for to purchase my first rental property. I am starting at the very beginning and I know I have a lot to learn so I am not rushing the process. My long term goal would be to accumulate 3-5 rental properties in the DMV area and possibly one long distance property that would be used as a vacation rental. I hope I will be able to connect with some great people and learn as much as possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!
