Hello, My name is Matthew Newman I'm from Cambridge, Ontario I am only 18 years old but I like learning about real estate. An idea I am looking into is purchasing a duplex for my first place in about a year or so and I would only rent one side cause I'd live in the other half and I would love to know if this is a good way to get into real estate and i would like to know what you guys think about that approach?

You have a start point but I would suggest you try and target a tri plex or larger for better financial security starting out. Be patient as it will probably take you many years to save up the down payment. In the mean time live as frugally as possible and try to associate with like minded investors. If your present circle of friends are more interested in enjoying the good life day to day lose them quickly as they will be a detriment to your future. I would also advise against getting into any serious personal relationships. They can be distracting and a financial drain. If you must then always remember you choose a life partner it does not just happen. Find one with money and/or ambition.

Nothing in life happens by chance.
