New BP member, moving to Dallas soon
Hello all,
As I wrap up my final semester of law school here in North Carolina I'm growing more and more excited about the new opportunities coming my way in the Dallas, TX area. As my profile says, my wife and I, both future attorneys, will be moving to the DFW area where she has accepted a job in the real estate section of a major law firm. I'll be starting both the job and house hunt immediately after we take the bar in July. With an eye towards buy-and-hold, we're looking at duplexes initially, where we can live in half and rent half. We lived in an apartment in Dallas last summer, in the Knox/Henderson area, and did a lot of driving around looking at houses/neighborhoods in our free time, even going to open houses on the weekends. We took a trip over spring break back to the area to have a realtor show us some places and were disappointed to find that 6 of the 8 properties we sent him on Sunday evening were gone by Tuesday morning. It seems the market is moving much too fast to be able to pull the trigger on anything remotely, especially without establishing a better network of professionals in the area. And that brings me to why I'm here: I'm really looking forward to getting to know some of you on here and hope that one day I can be an excellent resource as well. I've enjoyed following along in some of your conversations about DFW and figured it was time I join in on some of them too. Hope to make the introductions on BP now and meet in person sometime when I settle in the area.
