Appraiser from Indiana/Michigan

I've been appraising since 2005, and have done a little investing with great results. I've purchased 2 distressed properties that I have lived in for a few years while remodeling and then sold for a great profit. I am also holding a few hundred acres of farmland in Michigan. I know the local market for single family residential properties pretty thoroughly, but I'd like to learn more about multi-family, apartments, commercial, and/or developing to see how I can go bigger.

I have discussed financing and RE with my kids since they were old enough to understand, so they probably know more than the average person. My 2 oldest sons (college students) just stopped in at Bentley Gold Coast in Chicago and have decided they want to skip buying a sports car now and want to put their money in RE. So I'm also looking for how to best advise and support them and possibly invest together. Is anyone out there doing this with family?

I'm loving the information here and the great people who generously offer their time and knowledge to help others. All information, advice, opportunities, and connections are welcome.
