I am a commercial construction professional that has become a real estate investor by accident. I purchased properties at or near the top of the market and was forced to hold on to them because at the time I moved out of those properties, they were under water. They are currently rentals for me.

Now that I'm beyond the mid-point of my career, I'm thinking about my transition to retirement. Like many, I don't feel as though I've saved enough for retirement. Because of that, I'm thinking that I need to supplement my income in the short term. But in the long term, I need to ensure adequate income after retirement. Since I already have a foot in the door of real estate, I figured I'd go ahead and step all the way in.
