Portland area. Early 50s, 2 kids in college and one in high school. Looking for the next phase in our lives. We've always been real estate junkies and so it's a natural fit to try our hand at investing. Long term goals are to build a business, using the BRRRR model. At this point doing a lot of research (sooooo glad I found BP).

Lots of learning to do, and the deals are scarce in Portland these days. My biggest worry is contractors: does anyone know of a good reliable rehab contractor here? With our own house, the old joke is that when we've had work needing to be done we ask 3 contractors over to look at it and bid, and the one who shows up gets the job! :-) I despair over finding someone who can jump into a rehab project and get the work done on budget, on schedule and who I don't feel like is fleecing me.

Any other recommendations on the local area that anyone can give would also be welcome. We have a couple of agents we are friendly with who we will start with, and I will attend the next REIA meeting this month.

Long way to say ... Hi!
