Hi everyone, my wife and I moved to Salt Lake City from Iowa about a year ago.  Now that were starting to actually get settled down we want to start getting into some real estate investing. Our long term goals are to eventually become full time investors and get out of the "rat race". I see real estate as a great vehicle to do that.

I bought my first investment property when I was 18. My freshmen year of college I was living in the dorms and looking with apartments with friends for the upcoming school year. I couldn't believe the crazy amounts of money that people would pay to rent an apartment. I couldn't stand throwing all that money away in rent and not getting any equity so I started looking for houses that had some rental potential. Before I knew it I was closing on a 4 bedroom duplex just a few blocks from campus. I lived there until I graduated, letting my roommates pay the mortgage the whole time, and continued to rent it out until I moved to Utah.

We're interested in wholesaling, flipping and buy and hold. I have a strong background in construction so flipping/rehab has a particular appeal to me. I would probably start out doing much of the work myself and start subbing it out as I become a more experienced investor. We're primarily looking for low money down or creative financing and are interested in working with a partner, at least for the first few deals.

I think the first thing we need to get started with is going to some meetings and getting to know the community. We are still new to the area and are working on building up a strong network. Does anyone have any recommendations for network building and meetings we could attend in the area?

Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you all!

Bryce
