I'm always hesitant to create intro posts on forums, however, since I'm passionate about starting my new chapter in real estate investing and appreciate the wealth of knowledge this site has and will continue to provide, I feel it is beneficial to announce my membership. I no longer want to just lurk and soak in the information, I want to be a part of it.

I was working in the network engineering field for 16 years until a reduction in force 6 months ago. While there is another endeavor that I'm pursuing, REI is something I've always had an interest in and wanted to be involved with. Growing up I said I would purchase and fix up the duplexes in an area that I lived in to provide better housing in that community.

I did take two of the four real estate classes during undergraduate however after graduating I went into the corporate world and never completed the other two to take the RE licensing exam.

My father has land down south and owns rental property here locally, however, he has just held onto one of the houses and since I'm free, I'm looking to help him complete the rehab and get it ready to rent.

My plan right now is to continue reading and researching, attend a few auctions to get a feel of that process and obtain my RE sales license. Classes begin next month.

I have read some about the solo401k and would like to know about that as I have an old account that I could possible transfer over, but my goal is to find a private investor for my first purchase.

If anyone knows of a good GC in the area that they can refer that would be great also.
