REI newbie from New Jersey

Hello everyone :)

My name is Miya.  I have been interested in real estate for a number of years since it kind of runs in the family.  My Grandfather has a few houses he rents out and my Mother has started her own RE company.  The only problem is that Grandpa hasn't really generated the kind of income I'm looking to make and my Mother is still starting out herself. 

I know it all starts with a business plan and project proposal.  I'm not sure how to put these together but I'll look around the site for information.  If anyone can help your input would be MUCH appreciated.
