Real Estate investing in New Jersey

I'm very new to the real estate investing. Real Estate investing has always been a passion of mine, but I never took the courage to get involved with it. My profession currently is a registered nurse. I wanted some input to where should I start at with investing: from single family homes, duplexes, fix and flip. If anyone in the forum would have to start over from the beginning with investing, what would you start off doing? Please respond to the newbie.
