New Member: Question about when to make contacts

Hi, I'm a new member. In the near future, my husband and I are planning on buying and holding fourplexes in a college town. We also plan on making the four-plex owner-occupied as we're still learning the ins and outs of the business. Then, we plan to expanding and buying a few more fourplexes in the area.

Since our time frame for the actual first purchase won't be until mid-2016. When do you think I should start making connections with an investor-focused real estate agent in the area where we plan to buy? When should I start calling direct lender to know more information, etc.?

I've been reading up on real estate investing from different sources (including the UBG of BiggerPockets). I've also watched the free webinars that was provided when I joined BP. But I still don't understand time frames.

Thanks! Looking forward to learning a lot here in BP.
