hi guys,
I am new to this site and just wanted to say hello.
I have been reading some of the forums and am impressed how you all are so helpful with good practical advice. I'm 58 years old typical guy with family and kkissing college trying to keep up. Have a decent steady job working for the County with 33 years in now with my pension, and hope to go into a semi-final retirement to spend more time with my family and take my wife on a few trips we have talked about for too long. Have some money in my IRA but only half of where I thought I would be now 20 years ago thanks to the downturn in the economy and stock market. I'm ready to refocus... and am hoping to.learn from you guys..
Years ago I had a couple duplexes but was not so.smart and sold them without thinking about how to replace the income. I do have a small apartment on our property that has helped our family with extra income. I just know that I need more secured income with this crazy economy to help the family and build a secured future for me and my wife.
I have some real estate that I am selling to kick start my plan to become more financially independent in a 3 - 5 years by investing in rental.properties. I would like to get into maybe section 8 type properties for more secured rental income, and hope to maximize my money from the vacant land ($125 k) into this venture.
Our family is the typical American Family always on the go. Focused on enjoying our time together and dealing with day to day struggles...jobs, bills, school, and an occasional vacation to Disneyland! By the way... I enjoy sailing, skiing, gardening. Which I never seem to have enough time to enjoy.
