Soon-to-be rental property invester from Sherwood, OR

Hello BiggerPockets,

I've been listening to podcast and reading the forum on and off for the past couple of years.  My wife and I are finally in a place where we can really get started in real estate investing.

My name is Dan Standke and I have lived in Sherwood, OR for almost 4 years now.  I'm currently a stay at home dad with 2 kids and we are in the process of buying a new primary residence and keeping the old house as a rental.  If things go well enough, the plan is to continue to acquire properties in the Portland area to the point where my wife has the option of working.  I have zero experience with real estate investing or being a landlord, so I'm hoping to find similar minded/experienced people in my area to help fill my knowledge gaps.
