Canadian from Durham Region, Ontario New to Bigger Pockets

Hello,

I am a new member to BP from Newcastle, Ontario. My wife and I have been involved in real estate investing since 2010 and currently own three condominium properties in the Durham Region. These have been very safe, low maintenance, buy and hold properties for us but I am at the point where I would like to take real estate investing much further with an end goal of being self-employed through our endeavors. The condos have been great to manage on our own and were originally purchased to generate equity but in moving forward we would like to acquire additional buy and hold properties with better cash flow. I am currently undecided on whether to focus on single family properties or multi-family dwellings and in either case I find the Durham Region market very expensive given the 20% down payment requirement. I have spent some time looking at the Peterborough and Belleville markets which are much cheaper but the ones I have looked at were a little rough around the edges. With our condos we have been able to attract quality tenants and as much as we can I would like to keep it that way, but we are not adverse to properties outside our area and relying on a property manager either.

I am very interesting in connecting with folks from Durham Region, Peterborough, Quinte or other promising areas who may have some insight in acquiring quality properties that fit our buy and hold strategy.

I would also like to thank BP for the wealth of resources on this site.

Regards,

Rick
