Greetings, SF dweller / Silicon valley gal new to BP

Hello,

I'm a gal in the ridiculous land that is San Francisco, recently moved from Seattle. 

Trying to not just dump all my money into the stock market (I come from a heavy baby boomer family and they keep telling me to just get gold) nor just have it sit in savings wasting away.

Background: I really enjoy looking at real estate. Even when I was younger in a low/middle class family in Idaho. I'd just pick up a real estate guide and paw through it. 

Goal: Now that I have a job, I'd like to invest in California (parents are here and my job) / Western Washington since I still travel there for friend purposes. 

Saw BP and have been enjoying the interviews and real-world tips with no non-sense.
