Student in Utah
I have been loving everything I'm seeing here on BP and am eating up the podcasts. Top notch stuff here! I want to get into real estate investing and eventually go full-time. I'm currently a finance student at BYU, plus I work part time as a loan officer. So I don't have a whole lot of time yet to allocate to investing, plus I'm planning on getting out of Utah once I graduate in about 2 years.
That being said, I want to get any kind of real estate exposure and experience as I can while I'm still a student and not a fully active investor myself. What kinds of experiences would you, the BP community suggest would be most worthwhile? I can allocate about 20 hours/week over the summer to this and want to really leverage that the best I can.

Welcome Gregg! I graduated from the BYU Finance program last April. I loved the program and am sure you will as well. I was in your same shoes about 3 years ago and I wish I had known about BP then. The Podcast seems great - I have only listened to a couple episodes. Check out The Creating Wealth Show by Jason Hartman. That is a podcast that I have listened to for a couple years now.
I have been working for a real estate investment fund here in SLC for the last 2 years. We focus on apartment complexes (200+ units) and commercial office. I don't know if we are looking for interns this summer, but I could check if you are interested. I would also reach out to Peak Capital Partners in Orem. They are a smaller shop, but offer internship positions quite often.
My wife and I recently bought a 4-plex in SLC just 6 months after graduation. We have been renovating units and managing the property in our free time. It can be done. The main thing is just going out and doing. Creating passive income is something everyone should learn about. You will probably learn more about real estate through your personal study, pod-casts, etc. than you will even in the real estate finance course offered at BYU. Learn all you can and start saving for your first deal. Best of luck!
