Hello All -
I'd say I have fair-weather feelings towards stock investing and so I've finally began my education on real estate investing. The thoughts have fluttered in my head for the past 10 years, but I never had a drive or the will to dive in. I think entering corporate America had something to do with kick starting my new found pro-activeness. My former manager, who educated himself for about 2 years, began investing about a year ago in multifamily as a passive investor and has taught me about what he has learned and continues to do so.
I stumbled across BP about a month ago and have been listening to the podcasts on my drive in/from work. I'm in sponge mode currently by using BP, reading books, and discussing things with my former manager. I also have a friend that purchased a SF home last year that I will speak with.
From what I read I like the buy and hold strategy. I have no desire to do a lot of land lording duties at this point, but I'm willing to do so if I purchase a SF or duplex/triplex. Ideally I'd be a passive investor if possible.
My short term goal is to get into an investment sometime in 2017. My wife and I have a resolution this year to remove the remainder of our student debt and I'd like a year to save.
Medium term goal is to generate enough passive income to modestly supplement our incomes.
Long term I don't need to be rich. I'm modest I'd say. I'd like to create enough cash flow that would allow my wife to quit work if she wanted. I aspire to attain a point where I have enough passive income, along with my day job, to live comfortably without worrying about eating, taking a trip, or pursuing hobbies.
Look forward to tackling this challenge.
