New accidental REI in Syracuse, NY

Hello,

My name is Ryan Moore and I have been an accidental real estate investor for the last 5 years. Due to a work relocation I had to rent my first home. I thought I was making a long term move and ended up buying property in the Albany area. 5 years later I ended up moving back into our first property that we rented in the meantime and now rent our second purchase. I have made all kinds of mistakes in that time and it has been a struggle to convince my wife that real estate actually is a good investment and worth the headache.

I have been searching for the information that is on BP for years and am so excited to have found it. I have been listening to as many pod casts as I can and lurking around the forums for the last few weeks. A few main things that rang true with me were take action and engage. So here  I am, I'm not much for online communities but feel I can be helpful to others based on my past mistakes and clearly learn all kinds of good information from all of you great investors.

I currently work in the home performance industry which encompasses energy efficiency upgrades in residential and commercial buildings. I have done it all from working on crews that performed the work to managing a business that won a contractor of the year award in its region in New York State in 2012. Currently I perform energy audits and make recommendations to homeowners and landlords for energy efficient improvements.

My hope is to learn as much as I can in real estate and in a 5-10 yr time turn it in to a full time business that can provide me a career on my own terms and do one of the things I love which is to look at properties. I'm interested in buy and holds and buy in flips in an around the Syracuse, NY area as well as wholesaling opportunities.

If anybody has any questions about the Home Performance with Energy Star program in New York I would be happy to answer any questions I can. I look forward to sharing and meeting any REI's in my area or beyond.
