Hi everyone!

I am from the Boston area. I am new to real estate investing, but very interested. I have been looking (online only so far) at some multi-family properties. My short term goal is to purchase a multi-family property. I would like to occupy one unit and rent the other(s). I would like to then expand my holding to other multi-families in the area. I joined this forum to learn what others have done and are doing.

Hope to talk to you all soon!

Eric

Eric,

First off… What a great name! It is by far one of my favorites. It is a very simple, yet powerful name!

Dig in! There is a lot of good info here... Just take a look around!

Great to have you here!
Take care,

Eric - I think you have a great plan. I actually believe that one of the best ways to learn how to become a landlord is to buy a multi family and live in one of the units. There are downsides (tenants knocking on your door in the middle of the night), but no other experience gives you as up close a look at what it is like to be a landlord.

Jump in the landlording forum and you'll find a ton of great info!

Welcome Eric,

There are several forums you can read here at Bigger Pockets that include other landlord successes as well as horror stories. Both are good for you to be able to learn from. There are some basic "rules to live by" with which you can avoid your own horror stories. I would suggest that you read as much as possible, and then develope your policies and procedures, then stick with them. Good luck!

Mike

Hello Eric,
Boston - beautiful town for 5 months of the year...lol. Being as it's January - let me guess....gray skies? J/K Everyone should at least visit Boston once. It's an awesome city. There's nothing like walking the streets of history....on your way to Mike's Pastries for the best cannoli in the US. :-)

Welcome to the site. Boston is a beautiful area and definitely one that people should visit at least once. Good food, I don't know about the best cannoli in the US (I'm a little biased being an Italian native NYC guy who used to eat in Little Italy. lol), and a lot of history. Love the cobblestone streets. Read the forums and ask all the questions you may have. There is a wealth of knowledge here provided by some very experienced investors.
