New Member intro - Hillsboro, OR

Hi everyone!

I'm new to BiggerPockets and doing everything I can to learn more about real estate investment. My goal is to get started sometime in the next year or two with the Buy and Hold strategy. It sounds like a single family home could be my first property, but there are a lot of recommendations for 2-4 plexes as well. I'd love to hear some more opinions on these in the Portland metro area.

My family thinks I'm nuts for wanting to be a landlord, and maybe I'll learn the hard way, but from what I'm learning you can take a lot of steps to mitigate the negative side to a degree. The cash flow and long term financial benefits as you build up net worth over time are very appealing. I know it's going to be a tough road. I need to do my homework, put in the effort, and hang in there through the rough patches.

I'm looking forward to meeting people here and learning from those who so generously share their insights and wisdom from a wealth of experience. If I can learn through mistakes you made rather than making them myself as well, maybe in a way you can find redemption for that past mistake that haunts you. Real estate therapy!

I can already tell this is a powerful community and I can't wait to be a part of it.

Best,

Tim
