Any teachers who are also Real Estate Investors?

Hi all -

I'm new to BP and have really enjoyed thumbing through the forums and getting started with the podcasts. I'm currently an elementary teacher in Newark, NJ and am interested in beginning to invest in buy-and-hold properties in and around my area within the next year. I was wondering if there were any other teachers out there that have found success with investing? As I work at a charter school, we have longer days and a longer year than most, but I still have about four weeks off during the summer that I'd like to use to maximize my business, and figured there's probably other teachers out there doing the same!

I plan to spend this summer researching and developing a plan with my business partner, and then save next school year for a down payment on my first multifamily to hopefully occupy and rent out starting next summer. Hoping to connect with any similar investors in the area this year, and definitely plan on attending the BP MeetUp in Summit soon (still need to find the coordinator/invite)!
